Amber Heard Will Appeal
Her attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, appeared on the Today Show yesterday and said the actress “absolutely” wants to appeal the jury’s decision in her defamation trial with Johnny Depp. “She has some excellent grounds for it,” Bredehoft said. “She was demonized here. A number of things were allowed in this court that should not have been allowed, and it caused the jury to be confused.” The jury was not sequestered throughout the trial, although they were strongly encouraged not to read news about the trial or go on social media, and Bredehoft thinks that had an effect on the verdict.
Spelling Bee History Was Made Last Night
Harini Logan, 14, won the first-ever spell-off at the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee. The San Antonio, Texas, native received a trophy and a check for $50,000. Harini went head-to-head with Vikram Raju, 12, in the first ever spell-off, a format that tested the contestants on how many words they could correctly spell within 90 seconds. Both students spelled so fast that the judges had to go to video to determine a winner: Harini spelled 21 words correctly, compared with 15 for Vikram. Harini, who was making her fourth and final eligible appearance in the Bee, said winning felt “so surreal.”
