Childcare, bars, large events: Slew of new reopening dates announced for Kentucky

Gov. Andy Beshear announced several more reopening dates for businesses Thursday as Kentucky moves forward with lifting pandemic-related restrictions.

On June 8, according to the governor, in-home childcare can return with 10 or fewer children. On June 15, center-based licensed child care programs can reopen to all families.

“Today is a day of really good news for many people. Child care is one of the areas we know is critical to reopening the economy. It is critical to parents and has been critical to our essential workers,” Cabinet for Health and Family Services Sec. Eric Friedlander said. “It’s always a balance between protecting ourselves and our families and going to back to being Healthy at Work.”

Beshear also announced bars, gatherings with 50 people or fewer and venues that hold 50 people or fewer can reopen June 29. Bars can also reopen June 29.

Additionally, auctions can resume June 1 and horse shows can resume June 8.

Ohio State Athletic Directors Says School Has Explored Possibility Of Hosting Over 20,000 Socially Distanced Fans For Football Games

“We have played a little bit with the social distancing concept and we know that probably would take us down south of 30,000 fans in the stands, actually closer to 20-22,000,” Smith said according to Yahoo Sports. “So we’ve played with that as a framework to start as we move forward and would ultimately be allowed to do.”

On paper the idea makes a lot of sense and follows certain guidelines that health officials have put forth over the past couple of months, but it would be far from easy to actually pull this type of thing off.

Ohio, Ky. parks preparing for big Memorial Day weekend

Campgrounds in Ohio were allowed to reopen Thursday with restrictions in place. Some parks are reopening facilities, activities and rentals hoping for good business this Memorial Day weekend.

Winton Woods stopped charging fees to enter the park at the beginning of the pandemic and will continue that policy until further notice.

Camping fees remain the same.  Regulations include no more than six people from the same household at each campsite, no visitors and no mingling between sites.  The shower house will be open and frequently cleaned. The boathouse will remain closed, meaning no boat rentals.

Kentuckians will have to wait until June 11 to camp in the commonwealth, but recreational activities are open.

At AJ Jolly Park in Alexandria, for example, you can rent kayaks, paddle boards and bikes, while playgrounds and shelters remain closed.
