Paramount Sued For ‘Top Gun’ Copyright Money

Paramount Studios is being sued for copyright infringement over “Top Gun” by the family of the author whose article inspired the 1986 film.

In a complaint filed in California federal court Monday, the heirs to Ehud Yonay’s 1983 article, “Top Guns,” state the film distribution company did not reacquire the rights for the recently released sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick.”
Shosh and Yuval Yonay claim that they sent a notice of termination to Paramount and that the rights reverted back to them in January 2020, the complaint, obtained by CNN, states.
According to the Yonays, production on “Top Gun: Maverick” did not finish until May 2021, more than a year after the studio knew it no longer had the rights to the source material.

“These claims are without merit, and we will defend ourselves vigorously,” Paramount Studios told CNN in a statement.

Woman Unknowingly Buys the Same Roller Skates She Sold 40 Years Ago

Renée Forrestall hadn’t laced up a pair of roller skates in more than 40 years. She wanted to try it again as a fun way to exercise, so she searched online classified sites for vintage roller skates and quickly found a similar pair in questionable condition. Amazingly, the pair she ended up buying from a seller in the area were the same skates she’d sold four decades ago.
Renée tried on the skates at the home of Jim Bond, the man selling them. Things got even stranger when she pulled back the tongue of the skates and saw her name written there.
Forrestall had sold the roller skates when she was a college student in Nova Scotia, Canada. She explained how it felt to put on the same skates again after all these years.

Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard Court Stenographer Says a ‘Few’ Jurors Fell Asleep Throughout Trial

Some of the jurors in the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard defamation case struggled to stay awake during the entire six-week trial, according to the court stenographer.

A seven-person jury, consisting of five men and two women, sided mostly with Depp in their verdict that was handed down on Wednesday afternoon in Virginia’s Fairfax County Courthouse. They awarded him $15 million in damages (which was reduced to $10.35 million due to a state law), finding that Heard defamed her ex-husband in her 2018 op-ed about domestic abuse, though she didn’t mention him by name in the article.

For her defamation countersuit, Heard was awarded $2 million in damages. She plans to appeal the verdict.

In a clip from a new interview with Law & Crime Network, Judy Bellinger — who served as the court reporter and was called a “rockstar” by Judge Penney Azcarate — said that a “few” of the jurors drifted asleep at points during the trial. The juror’s names will be sealed for at least one year, the judge previously ruled.

“There were a few jurors who were dozing off,” she said, adding that the sleeping jurors were in both the front and back rows. “And it was tough. There were a lot of video deposition, and they would just sit there and all of a sudden I’d see their head drop.”

Bellinger also added that the “best” juror who paid the most attention ended up being one of the alternates picked at random and ultimately not involved in the final verdict: “Unfortunately, the one alternate that was on there, she was probably the one that listened the most. I watched her facial expressions, she was very deeply into every word that was being said. I thought she would’ve made a great juror, and she did not get to see it to the end.”

“She was paying close attention,” added Bellinger.

Georgia man builds Star Wars X-wing fighter, using it to raise money for Ukraine

Physician and Star Wars fanboy Akaki Lekiachvili, who was raised in the former Russian republic of Georgia and now lives in the American state of Georgia, started building a nearly life-sized X-wing replica in his free time to teach his kids about science and technology.

He turned his garage into a lab and his wife was not thrilled. But six years and at least $50,000 in building materials later, he’s now tapping into the fervent Star Wars fanbase and using this cosmic cosplay craft to try and raise money for Ukraine.

His X-wing was recently displayed at an Atlanta Braves “Star Wars” night and even has its own twitter account which has been liked by none other than Luke Skywalker himself, actor Mark Hamill.  Click here to see it.

Lekiachvili and his wife have family in countries neighboring Ukraine and he says his mission to help is just getting started, invoking the old Jedi proverb “do or do not, there is no try.”
