Baby formula arrives in Indianapolis from Germany on US military aircraft to address critical need

A shipment of 35 tons of baby formula has arrived Sunday in Indianapolis on a US military aircraft from Germany to address a nationwide shortage.

The prescription formula will be distributed to areas around the country where there is the most acute need, a Biden administration official earlier told CNN. But the official said none of the first shipment would land on store shelves in the US, adding that Sunday’s shipment is hypoallergenic and will be fed to babies intolerant of protein in cow milk.
The shipment included 132 pallets of formula, which arrived on one C-17 cargo plane. The formula originated from Zurich, Switzerland, and was trucked to Germany, where it was loaded on the C-17 and flown to the US.
“It is a large shipment of very specific and specialized formula. Formula for moms and dads who have children who have allergies where the regular formula just simply will not work,”
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, who greeted the arrival of the delivery in Indianapolis, said

More baby formula to arrive within days: White House announces 1.5 million bottles are on the way

Altogether, about 1.5 million 8-ounce bottles of the three formulas, which are hypoallergenic for children with cow´s milk protein allergies, are due to arrive this week.

Mercedes-Benz Car Sold For A New World Record $142 Million

Mercedes-Benz just demolished the previous world record for the most expensive car ever sold at auction. The German automaker sold one of two road-legal Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Coupes prototypes ever made for a record-setting $142 million (€135 million) to a private owner.

The previous world record for the most expensive car ever sold was a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO which was sold in 2018 for $70 million.

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR was designed as a 2-seater race car and made its debut in the 1955 World Sportscar Championship. It’s widely considered to be one of the finest examples of automotive design.  But its life as a race car was short-lived due to the 1955 Le Mans disaster where 84 people died and 120 others were injured in the worst crash in racing history.

Jif peanut butter is being recalled

Multiple Jif peanut butter products are being recalled due to an outbreak of salmonella linked to a Lexington, Ky., manufacturing facility. The recalled products have lot code numbers between 1274425 – 2140425 and include the numbers 425 for the 5th-7th digits. “425” in that position indicates that it was processed in the Lexington facility.

This information is usually printed on the back label of the jar. A list of recalled products and their numbers can be seen on the FDA’s website.

J.M. Smucker Co., the parent company for the popular peanut butter brand, issued a voluntary recall on Friday. The Food and Drug Administration along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local partners are investigating the outbreak that so far spans 12 states.  Currently, 14 people have reported illnesses and two of those cases have resulted in hospitalizations, according to data provided by the CDC.
